HARLEY-NEWS #4 2003
JUMP START TO NORWAY
Our jumpstart to Norway happened one hot afternoon in Nice Côte d’Azure 2001. I had a puncture on my Dyna Wide Glyde, and to make a long story short, Lou and I met up with two Norwegians, Gudrun and Egil, at the Nice Harley Davidson workshop. Between the four of us we sorted out the collective problems and the French!
What has happened since then is a story of friendship, hospitality, good fun and happy memories.
We came to visit Gudrun and Egil in Trondheim the following summer. We arrived in time for “The Cruising” Weekend hosted by Fellows MC. To say that we were made feel welcome was an understatement. We met people from many clubs all extending the same warm open feeling of welcome to two strangers. Lou and I were really taken aback by the organisation of all the clubhouses. You really have it sorted! There is little to compare to them in the UK or Ireland.
Our short visit in 2001 led to a return visit to Wales from Gudrun and Egil the following Easter where we attempted to return the welcome and hospitality of the previous year.
The problem with making people feel so welcome is that they come back, and we did! We have just returned from 6 days in Trondheim and have come home with reinforced good feelings and great memories. We have to say that Sprengstart MC were great. Our visit was planned to include their 20th Anniversary weekend celebrations. Not having our Bikes with us this year Gudrun lent me her bike for the Charity Run and Lou was offered the seat in the sidecar leading the run, a first for her and a great memory to take home. We were again flabbergasted by the thoughtfulness of all involved. We visited the Paranoid MC to be met with a beer and two t-shirts as soon as we walked in the door, thanks Tore they are great.
We are glad that like the Irish you do not take yourselves too seriously... how could you with club names such as Rubbish, Scrambled Brains, Paranoid, Snoring, Jumpstart and Clumsy to mention just a few. We think its just great, bikers having fun doing what they like best, riding and partying, getting on with life in a really positive way. Keep it up you are a special group of guys and girls, a special find in this lifetime. Tussen takk for everything, to everyone from Roy and Lou. Here’s to the future with bikes we do not need wings to fly!
p.s. If any of you folks are heading to Wales your welcome to look us up.
